Therapies

We have included some of the Ayurvedic therapies available at Daksha Ayurveda along with a small description. Due to practical difficulty the list of all the therapies cannot included in this page. Doctor will suggest the suitable Ayurvedic therapies after direct consultation at Daksha.

Abhyangam
It is considered as one among the purvakarma (preparatory procedures). It implies synchronized massage to the whole body or local body parts as per the condition of disease for a period of 30 to 45 minutes or as prescribed by the physician.
Swedanam
Medicated steam bath done after applying medicated oil all over the body. Normally this will be done after doing the major treatments like dhara, abhyangam etc. This is one of the detoxification treatments.
Kizhi (Poultice)
It is also a special treatment procedure introduced by traditional Ayurvedic Vaidyas of Kerala. Kizhi literally means medicated bolus. It is made by tying various forms of medicaments in cotton cloth piece and then applying this bolus to the parts required after heating. Based on the type of medicines there are many types of Kizhis

Dhara
Dhara is a main or supplementary treatment procedure of pouring medicated oil, buttermilk and decoction on forehead or all over the body or on a specific part of the body according to the necessity and nature of the ailment. Along with this body massage is also done mainly to keep the body warm.
Udwarthanam
Udwarthanam is special therapeutic deep tissue massage using Choornas( medicated powders). Sometimes medicated oils will be mixed with Choornam for application.
Pizhichil
Cotton cloths immersed in lukewarm Medicated oil will be squeezed over the body for 30 to 45 minutes or as prescribed by the physician.
Nasyam
Nasyam is one among the panchakarma treatments in which the medicated oil is administered through the nose. This is found to be effective against disorders of head,neck and nervous system.
Shirodhara
Shirodhara is a treatment procedure of pouring medicated oil, buttermilk and decoction on forehead according to the necessity and nature of the ailment. Along with this body massage is also done mainly to keep the body warm.
Thakra Dhara
Thakradhara is a treatment procedure of pouring medicated buttermilk on forehead according to the necessity and nature of the ailment. Along with this body massage is also done mainly to keep the body warm.
Sirovasthi
A leather cap will be fixed on the head of the patient. Lukewarm medicated oil is poured into the leather cap and keep it as a dam for a period of 30 to 45 minutes or as prescribed by the physician.
Vasthi
Vasthi karma is the procedure by which the medicines in suspension form are administered through rectum. Vasti will be done using a special device called vasthi yanthram. After evacuation for 2 to 3 times the patient can take bath. Thereafter the diet as prescribed by the physician will be given.
Vamanam
Vamana is a treatment procedure of vomiting as a result of giving special medicines for intake. This is done for the purpose of eliminating toxins. It is one among the Panchakarma treatments.
Virechanam
It is a purificatory procedure used in eliminating the vitiated humors in more quantity with less stress. It is the purgation using specific medication for diseased conditions.
Rasayana Chikitsa
After proper administration of rejuvenation treatments the patient will be given Rasayana(medicines) in the manner and for the period as prescribed by the Physician.The medicines (rasayana) will be decided by the physician according to the condition of the patient's health.
Sneha Panam
Medicated Ghee as prescribed by the physician will be given under strict diet restrictions. The quantity is increased according to the digestive power of the patient. This will continue for few days as recommended by the physician.
Pichu
It is a way of application of cotton dipped in Luke warm medicated oil (Thailam) on local body parts (head, lumbar region, cervical region, joints etc). The time period and medicine used for this procedure as prescribed by the physician.
Tharpanam
In this procedure, a pool of mild warm oil is retained for specific time over specific areas as per the conditions. According to the body parts where Tharpanam is done, it is called in different names like,
